The Proof Is In: Jesus Walked On Ice!!!

My brother pointed out an absurd article which claims that Jesus could have walked on a patch of floating ice on the Sea of Galilee! The article is interesting, and seems to gather this conclusion from a grasping-for-straws approach to the evidence. Yet my brother, Dave Hayton, makes some poignant observations I would like to share with us all:

This is the height of absurdity. It is interesting to observe what depths scientists and news-casters will stoop to in order to make Christianity seem implausible or foolish. At the same time, it is a caution for we who believe: that we take care not to base our faith [or even spread our faith] on observable, scientifically-regulated “evidences.” Let’s make our priority to speak the Gospel boldly and lovingly, and watch the Holy Spirit do His supernatural work of change of mind & conversion. God doesn’t need to be “proved”; He “needs” to be prized.

  1. My wife and I were talking about this very topic last night and she said “so then this scientist believes there is some truth to the story… why doesn’t he just outright deny the story then try to explain it away with crazy ideas?”

I think she is a smart wife.

  2. Yeah, crazy! Imagine being foolish enough to think Jesus did not walk across water! Everyone knows he did because it was written. And that has to be good enough.

  3. Matthew 14:22-33

Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind,[d] he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Mark 4:51-52 adds, “And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.”

Jesus walked on water, to demonstrate that he was the Son of God in a very personal way to his disciples. They were hardened in their hearts and had not considered the wonder of Christ’s feeding the 5000 earlier that day. Now in the middle of the night, Jesus again demonstrates that he is God’s Son–Divine God in human flesh.

You all are welcome here. But keep in mind, this is a Christian blog designed for believers. And yes, since the Bible records this event, Christians believe it. Yet such belief is founded on the Bible’s having proved its reliability time and again to our inquiries, and further upon the Holy Spirit’s bearing witness in our hearts of the Word’s authenticity.

I recommend reading a short book Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ by John Piper. It evaluates the record of Jesus that we see in the Gospels, and it does a great job of emphasizing how truly glorious Jesus Christ really is. It is even available online to read if you would like, just click here to view it.

God bless you all, and may He open your eyes to behold His glory.
