How would you like to support missions with one of your Christmas gift choices? My grandfather is marketing a special hand-crafted wood paddle, proceeds of which benefit the Dorcas Fund–a fund to help widows and orphans in Zambia, Africa.
The paddle has an inspirational message: “Up a creek without a paddle? Seek me. ~God.” The paddles are going for $22 each (includes shipping), now through December 15th.
You can see more pictures of the paddle and get full details here.
What is on the flip side, “No gimmick left untried”? Is this really the right way to fund this effort? When did God say this? How does this become the gospel? Have we become so like the world that we don’t pause at using their methods? This reminds me of my days as a Southern Baptist. “Tithe” mint, anyone?
Heyrandy,
Love your handle by the way….
This is no real gimmick. My grandfather is a retired businessman, and he came up with the idea as a gift item that could be sold at Christian camps, etc. It is an inspirational message that he likes and he wants to sell them just to raise money to give to an African mission cause.
These haven’t really caused much of a stir and sales have been quite mediocre at best. It’s just a dear old saint’s desire to help out the cause of Christ in any way he can.
Personally I’m with you on the whole Christian mint thing, and marketing Christianity. I don’t think that’s the aim of this endeavor at all. Some people like knickknacks like this, and they could make good gifts for such people.
I hear what you’re saying however. I’m just trying to support my grandfather’s cause a bit with my blog here. I helped him create his website for it and if he can sell a few he’d be happy.
Blessings in Christ,
Bob Hayton
