“Be Unto Your Name” by Lynn DeShazo & Gary Sadler

Gospel-Centered, Christ-Magnifying, God-Glorifying, Modern Worship MusicI am a little behind on posting my weekly Music posts. We sang this song last Sunday. It is another example of a gospel-centered, Christ-magnifying, God-glorifying, modern worship song. The melody lends itself well to reflection on the songs simple yet important message. This would be a song worth learning and using regardless of which music style you prefer. I hope the message is a blessing to you today.

Be Unto Your Name

by Lynn DeShazo & Gary Sadler

We are a moment You are forever
Lord of the ages God before time
We are a vapor You are eternal
Love everlasting reigning on high

Chorus
Holy holy Lord God Almighty
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain
Highest praises honor and glory
Be unto Your name
Be unto Your name

We are the broken You are the healer
Jesus Redeemer mighty to save
You are the love song we’ll sing forever
Bowing before You blessing Your name

∼striving for the unity of the faith for the glory of God∼ Eph. 4:3,13 “¢ Rom. 15:5-7

“Receive the Glory” by Bob Kauflin

Last Sunday we sang a song that is fast becoming one of my favorites. It is a fairly new song by Bob Kauflin of Sovereign Grace Ministries that focuses on the Glory of God. The message is clear and the melody very pleasant. All the elements of the song wonderfully unite to emphasize the single theme. And last Sunday, when we sang the song at the end of John Piper’s message on justification based on Christ’s righteousness alone, the theme couldn’t have been more timely and powerful.

Receive the Glory

Words and Music by Bob Kauflin

Verse One

All that we’ve accomplished You have done for us.
And any fruit we harvest is a gift from Your hand.
We are only jars of clay that hold apriceless treasure,
And we exist to bring You pleasure, O God.

Chorus

Not to us, but to Your name alone,
Be all the glory, the glory, forever.
For Your faithfulness and steadfast love,
Receive the glory. The glory belongs to You.

Verse Two

Only by Your mercy can we come to You.
Though we deserve Your judment, You have called us by name.
So we glory in the cross of Christ that made us Yours forever,
That joined our lives together to sing:

"Your Great Renown"

We sang  yet another excellent song from Sovereign Grace Ministries this Sunday. The song centers on our Lord’s great renown and our desire to see His name praised in all the earth. It is encouraging to see so many singing this song with all their heart and soul. The song also serves to reorient one’s life in the proper direction. May God bless and encourage us all with this song.

Your Great Renown

Words by Eric Grover
Music by Eric Grover and Steve Cook

Verse One

Our hearts are longing for
The glory of the Lord
To be made known in all the Earth
Lord let Your kingdom come
Lord let Your will be done
Yours is the greatest name of all

Chorus

We want to see the nations bow
We want to hear the rising sound
Of the worship that You deserve
We want this passion to abound
A burden for Your great renown
Yours is the greatest name of all

Verse Two

Our hearts are longing for
The wisdom of the Lord
To be proclaimed in all the Earth
Your ways are higher than
The dreams of any man
Yours is the greatest name of all

Verse Three

Our hearts are hungry for
The power of the Lord
To be displayed in all the Earth
The message of the Cross
Will bring hope to the lost
Yours is the greatest name of all

In Christ Alone by Stuart Townend & Keith Getty

I recommend many modern hymns & contemporary songs for corporate worship. While the old hymns are certainly grand, the new songs God is giving to the church, are worthy of respect too.

~~~~~~
I’ve begun highlighting different worship songs we sing at Bethlehem Baptist Church each week, here on my blog. This Sunday, the song right before the message was one of my favorites, “In Christ Alone.” Please read the powerful lyrics.
In Christ Alone
by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend
IN CHRIST ALONE my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone! – who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied —
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine —
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!
I would put this song right up there against any hymn, I mean any. It is a modern hymn extraordinaire. I hope meditating on this song will be a blessing to you.
