This past Sunday I was privileged to fill in for our pastor at The Heights Church, St. Paul. The rapid cultural change and uncertain social/political climate formed the backdrop for my sermon.

The text is Hebrews 13:1-16, with special focus on verses 12-14, and the parallel passage of chapter 11:10-16.

Sermon Download: A Strong Encouragement to Hope

This past Sunday I had the opportunity to fill the pulpit at our church. This was the first Sunday after the US Supreme Court made gay marriage legal nationwide. That isn’t the theme of my message but does come across in the introduction. Now, more than ever, Christians are being challenged to persevere and to keep believing. It is easier than ever to give in and to shirk from affirming Scripture as our highest authority. Hebrews was addressed to believers in a similar boat – they were faced with pressure to conform and some were slinking back from total commitment.

Free Download: “Everyone’s A Theologian” by R.C. Sproul

Free Download from Christian AudioRecently, I finished listening to the ChristianAudio version of R.C. Sproul’s helpful introduction to systematic theology. Everyone’s A Theologian is practical and accessible. Sproul explains technical concepts in a simple-to-understand way that has been the hallmark of his influential ministry. The audio version of the book was almost like listening in on a lecture series by Sproul. The book really is better heard than read. The only drawback to this version is that it is not Sproul’s voice which reads the book.

This month, you can get this book for free from ChristianAudio.com. In addition, there is a marked discount on other titles by Sproul. Of the titles discounted, The Holiness of God is a true classic. One is a book on Islam by Sproul and a converted Arab scholar. Another is an introduction to Reformed Theology. Each of those titles and more are available for download at only $4.98 a piece.

Sermon Download: The Church’s Greatest Need

This past Sunday I had the opportunity to fill the pulpit while our pastor was away. I used the opportunity to encourage the church with respect to “one-another” ministry. Years ago I did a blog post on this topic: the importance the New Testament places on all the “one-another” commands. I took my earlier post and molded it into a message, and it was well received.
