Good news for Huckabee. In the latest Newsmax/Zogby Iowa poll, Huckabee passes McCain for fourth place at 8%. McCain only gets 6%. Romney expands his lead to 33% and Guliani (14%) & Fred Thompson (12%) duke it out for 3rd.
In May, Huckabee only had 2% support. This indicates that Huckabee is becoming more visible and viable as a candidate. Click here to view the results of this month’s poll as well as results from May, March, and January (HT: A Buck for Huck).
If you haven’t seen why Huckabee has across-the-aisle appeal, please view the video in this post.
Huckabee’s ‘buzz’ in the media lately has certainly helped him (and helped us, too!) in the polls. I will definitely vote for him in the primaries here in Florida- apparently we’re voting very early in 2008. I think that Huckabee’s appeal will draw *conservative* voters to the polls, thus ‘reaching across the aisle’ like Reagan did in 1984. Thanks for keeping us posted.
As an aside, I hope that my ‘beer’ comments in an earlier thread didn’t catch you off guard, Bob. I didn’t intend on stirring up the hordes of misshapen abstentionists.
First time, long time, bla bla bla…
I like your blog Bob, and appreciate the candid and ardent stand for truth you have.
You’ve also turned me on to Huckabee and I’m starting to get excited about his candidacy. I was leaning more towards Fred Thompson, but I’m now officially on the fence.
Lastly, and most enthusiastically, I love beer. In “moderation” of course :). Us Presbyterians can’t get enough…moderately of course.
Cheers to Huck!
I wasn’t blindsided Larry. No problem. I just felt like explaining due to all the new readers I’ve had lately, etc.
Thanks Eric. I’m still exploring beers, but an Amber Bock is hard to beat. Larry has me hooked on Yuengling, but I can’t get it in MN. I’m definitely Reformed in my drinking tastes!
Everything in moderation of course, as Larry and I both attest. You’ll find some articles on the issue on my blog as among conservative Christians you obviously know this can be taboo.
Blessings from Christ, brothers.
Bob
Harp is my favorite, rich, but not to full bodied…from the Guinness brewery. If you like the bock’s, you’d like Shiner Bock. It’s a Texas beer, so you might have trouble getting it in MN. I’m in the Pac NW, and the beer possibilities are endless.
Funny sidenote, my father-in-law is a PCA minister and he didn’t start drinking beer till he got to seminary…
I like Harp too, its just not as smooth as I’d like. It’s quite good though, similar to Smithwicks.
I never was much of a beer guy until I came to Kaz. — but I’ve been experimenting, since the alcohol (and nothing else) seems to be cheaper over here than in the States.
My favorite so far is a beer called “Tuborg” — a light beer made in the Netherlands, I believe.
Can’t help you much on American beers — about all they have avilable over here is Miller Genuine Draft, and I don’t buy it because it’s more expensive than most.
Nathan,
You gotta try an amber or dark beer. When you get back to the States, try Michelob Amber Bock.
Dave’s favorite is Miller Genuine Draft — that’s okay except it’s much weaker in taste and body than the darker beers. They might have Birkebeiner over there — that’s a German beer that I like. It is light but it has a somewhat bitter taste which is quite good.
Blessings in Christ,
Bob
I did try one dark beer, but it was just a cheap local brand, so I’m not sure of it was the best quality. It was ok, but not my favorite. I guess I’ll have to try a good dark sometime.
Nathan,
Tuborg is a Danish beer, just to correct you about its origin. I agree that Tuborg is pretty good. Many well-known European beers marketed here in the USA are pretty hoppy (Heineken, Grolsch, Tuborg, Staropramen) and somewhat ‘chewy’ beers. I recently tried Staropramen, which is from the Czech Republic, and it is very close in taste to Heineken, a Dutch beer. British ales are probably the most foamy, creamy beers around, and recently I tried Boddington’s Pub Ale. Absolutely scrummy.
A dark beer to try is Guinness Stout, from Ireland (although the Guinness you will find in the supermarket shelf is made in Canada). The best stout I had, which I thought was better than Guinness, is an American made stout called “Bareknuckle Stout”. Don’t be shocked if you think you’re looking at something horribly dark, like motor oil with foam & fizz, in a stout beer (or, porter ales as well). Stouts are extremely hoppy, and may be some getting used to.
Hey, we’ve ended up hijacking this thread because of BEER! I thought this was a political comment thread about Huckabee’s success. I’ll toast to that.
P.S.– Bob, you need to send back a package with some ‘goodies’ before I can send you some more Yuengling. It’s your turn, dude.
Thanks for the correction (and further advice), Larry. Now that you mention it, Danish sounds right after all. I was thinking Dutch (the all-too-common co-incidence of “D”s fallacy :)).
Cheers.
Hey, I just made a small $$$ contribution to Mike’s campaign. His website has an interesting amount to give: $20.08. It’s a small amount, but worthwhile to a worthy candidate!
Larry,
Way to go! I contributed once before too, but I can’t afford much more.
PS I hope to send a cheery package on its way south in a week or two!
