Super Bowl XLII, Play of the Game

Wow! This game has to be one of the best Super Bowls ever. And I don’t remember seeing such a spectacular play as this one. It was the game changer 1 minute left which propelled the Giants to victory. Again, the play is simply jaww dropping.

Eli Manning and the Giants deserve this win. The defense was phenomenal, and Coach Kauflin certainly vindicated himself — he’ll be coaching the Giants for quite some time, I predict.

We Believe (#14): Death, Resurrection, and the Coming of the Lord

Part 14 in a series of Sunday posts celebrating the glorious Truth we believe as Christians. The readings are quoted from the Elder Affirmation of Faith, of my church, Bethlehem Baptist (Pastor John Piper). I’m doing this because every few weeks our congregational reading is an excerpt from this document, and every time we all read aloud the truths we confess, my soul rejoices. I pray these posts will aid you in worshiping our Lord on His day.

Death, Resurrection, and the Coming of the Lord

We believe that when Christians die they are made perfect in holiness, are received into paradise, and are taken consciously into the presence of Christ, which is more glorious and more satisfying than any experience on earth.

We believe in the blessed hope that at the end of the age Jesus Christ will return to this earth personally, visibly, physically, and suddenly in power and great glory; and that He will gather His elect, raise the dead, judge the nations, and establish His kingdom. We believe that the righteous will enter into the everlasting joy of their Master, and those who suppressed the truth in unrighteousness will be consigned to everlasting conscious misery.

We believe that the end of all things in this age will be the beginning of a never-ending, ever-increasing happiness in the hearts of the redeemed, as God displays more and more of His infinite and inexhaustible greatness and glory for the enjoyment of His people.

Go Giants!

Since it is Super Bowl Sunday, I thought I’d declare I’m rooting for anyone but the Patriots! Actually, this year I was pulling for Indianapolis and also Green Bay. They both lost in the championship games and I am disappointed!

I don’t necessarily like the Giants (without Tiki Barber). But the Patriots are annoyingly too good! And I think they know it. So like the Dallas Cowboys of the 90s and even the Green Bay Packers after that, they are too cocky for my taste.

Besides, I’m holding out for Peyton Manning and the Colts to get that perfect season.

Oh, and I’m not missing church to watch the game. Our small group is having a Super Bowl party, and my church doesn’t have Sunday night services.

Please remember football is a game. It’s fun, but it shouldn’t be one’s all-in-all. Make sure you worship Christ today.

Don't Give Up on Huckabee!

McCain is not a foregone conclusion. And it certainly isn’t a 2 man race. While the polling numbers aren’t great for Huckabee, he’s quite close to Romney, statistically sharing the number 2 slot. He’s come from behind in the past, so don’t count him out.

Vote for the candidate with the best message, not the most pragmatic choice available. When its the general election, then we might have to settle for who the party has nominated, but let’s not back down now!

All Huckabee needs is the conservative base of the party to coalesce around him in the sourthern states up for grabs on Tuesday. He may need your vote!

With this in mind, read Kevin Tracy’s excellent post using California’s recent special gubernatorial race as an example of why we should not waver on supporting Huckabee as the race comes down to the wire.
