Super Sale at Sovereign Grace

If you haven’t heard, Sovereign Grace Ministries is having a big February Sale.

All of their music CDs are discounted to $6 with free shipping. At my church, probably 30% of what we sing in worship times are songs written by Bob Kauflin and the other Sovereign Grace songwriters. I recommend Songs for the Cross Centered Life (which I have), and I’ve heard that Valley of Vision and their Christmas CD are really good. Their store will let you preview clips of the songs, as well as preview the lyrics and scores for free. Many of the songs I’ve reveiwed on my blog, are Sovereign Grace songs.

They also are discounting their Pursuit of Godliness books, and other materials as well. I encourage you to take advantage of this super sale!

Super Bowl XLII, Play of the Game

Wow! This game has to be one of the best Super Bowls ever. And I don’t remember seeing such a spectacular play as this one. It was the game changer 1 minute left which propelled the Giants to victory. Again, the play is simply jaww dropping.

Eli Manning and the Giants deserve this win. The defense was phenomenal, and Coach Kauflin certainly vindicated himself — he’ll be coaching the Giants for quite some time, I predict.

Go Giants!

Since it is Super Bowl Sunday, I thought I’d declare I’m rooting for anyone but the Patriots! Actually, this year I was pulling for Indianapolis and also Green Bay. They both lost in the championship games and I am disappointed!

I don’t necessarily like the Giants (without Tiki Barber). But the Patriots are annoyingly too good! And I think they know it. So like the Dallas Cowboys of the 90s and even the Green Bay Packers after that, they are too cocky for my taste.

Besides, I’m holding out for Peyton Manning and the Colts to get that perfect season.

Oh, and I’m not missing church to watch the game. Our small group is having a Super Bowl party, and my church doesn’t have Sunday night services.

Please remember football is a game. It’s fun, but it shouldn’t be one’s all-in-all. Make sure you worship Christ today.

The Best of Bob's Blog: A Year in Review 2007

Better late then never! Its February 1st, 2008 before I’m reviewing 2007. In my defense, we’ve already had 2 family-wide illness cycles since January 1!

Since I blog on so many different topics, weeding down my choices to 10 is difficult. So I’ll add a few honorable mentions, and then add in some favorites and other assorted distinctions for some other posts. This is fun for me, but it also can make some of my readers aware of older posts around here that might be worth checking out.

Without further ado, let’s begin, in reverse order.

This post explores the motivations behind 2 of my favorite (and also two of the most popular) CCM groups.

This post addresses the common criticism that Calvinism is just a logical system of thought, and not really Biblical.

These posts deserve to be in the top 10, but two others are worthy of honorable mention.

Before you go, let me point out some assorted favorites, facts, and other interesting posts worth at least a mention here:

Christmas Reading

Merry Christmas everyone. 1 week, that’s all. Only 1 week till Christmas!

I hope that you will all have a great Christmas, but that it will be more than just an American Christmas. Please celebrate Christ and revel in worship as we remember his birth. Look past the manger to the Cross and further still to the empty tomb! Remember that Jesus is the Greatest Gift ever given!

I wanted to point you to our online Christmas Card and wish you all a wonderful Christmas. And I thought I’d also list a few interesting posts on the topic of Christmas here, as well.

Here is the link to our family Christmas greeting, and the links below are worth the read:

  • The 12 Days of Theology (an interesting new version of the popular carol 12 Days of Christmas)
  • A look at the history of the song “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”
  • A good old hymn you might have never heard of: “Christmas Day Has Come” [tune available (scroll down) here]
  • Ben Stein (a Jew) on Christmas:

I don’t feel threatened. I don’t feel discriminated against. That’s what they are “” Christmas trees. It doesn’t bother me a bit when people say ‘Merry Christmas’ to me. I don’t think they’re slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto…..I do not like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don’t think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians.
